August 10, 2025

San Diego, CA- With three days of pool play down, teams competed for fifth, third and first place games, with Prospect Black getting it done in the championship game in the finale of Pathway Baseball's 2025 edition of Prospect Games at Tony Gwynn Stadium at San Diego State Univeristy on Sunday afternoon. Each player showcased their skill sets on and off the field, in an event designed to get players in front of college coaches and award their standout performances throughout the season.

Championship Game

Black gets out to five inning lead and never looked back

Prospect Black 7, Prospect Royal 5

After a scoreless first inning, Black broke the scoring open with an error that brought home Colbey Larson.  On the next play, Dane Wyman, a 2026 from Colorado, singled on a line drive to right field that allowed Liam Delgado and Daniel Kean to score.

In the top of the fourth Cooper Vais hit a deep fly to right field that the fielder was unable to corral. The error allowed Trey Snyder to score, giving black a commanding 4-0 lead.

Royal got on the board in the bottom of the fourth off an early error. Brayden Reiner was able to score on the following play, after hitting a double earlier in the inning.

Black tallied three more runs in the top of the fifth, thanks to a wild pitch that allowed Breck Johnsons to score. Delgado then capitalized, after a single to left field that allowed a Colbey Larson score. On the next pitch, Nathen Canfield added to the total with a single brining home Kean, and giving their squad a massive 7-1 lead.

Black pitched by committee for the final two innings, with Talan Speir and Brett Paxton each getting a shift.

Royal saw signs of life in the bottom of the seventh, down six runs soon to be team MVP Norman Montion rattled off a triple that scored three runs for his squad.

Fortunately for the Black, they made it out safe and sound, thanks to strong pitching from Paxton, that ultimately ended with a batter striking out while looking.

Delgado was crowned MVP of the tournament, thanks to his clutch and consistent hitting that resulted in his teams winning ways.

"We wanted to get every kid into every game", said head coach Portugal. "It helped their attitude when they came to the ballpark, and the results showed that."

Third Place Game

Gray ends tournament on three game win steak to secure third

Prospect Gray 9, Prospect Red 3

Solid work pitching from Tristan Lewis for Red, and Ruger Braithwaite for Gray led to only one run being scored by either side in the first three innings.

The fourth and fifth inning were a similar story, with Hudson Smith throwing five strikeouts and not allowing a single run for Gray. Red used several pitchers through the remainder of the game but didn't surrender another run until the seventh inning.

Gray took the game by storm in the seventh, recording seven runs off a series of hits and errors.

5th Place Game

Navy gets it done off strong pitching to end their week with a win

Prospect Navy 3, Prospect Columbia 1

Devin Bishop singled in the first inning allowing soon to be team MVP, Angelo Viera, a 2026 grad from Colorado, to score first.

The remainder of the offense for Navy came in the top of the fifth. Jesse Terrazone and Crue Kimball scored, thanks to a series of hits and stolen bases to give their squad a lead they wouldn't surrender.
